How do I run a successful online class on KidPass?

As a teacher on KidPass, it’s important to keep several things in mind when teaching a class. How you teach a class, what you teach and when you teach could all determine if your class is successful or not.  Remember, if you have any questions, reach out to!

  • It’s more than a live meeting. Keep in mind that classes shouldn’t feel like online meetings—they should feel like fun classes that kids will enjoy.

  • Offer something unique. Create your own approach to each class, and really show how passionate you are about teaching a specific subject.

  • Classes should be interactive. All classes should include significant communication between teachers and students, and communication between students as well. It’s important for each class to feel like it’s being taught in person and not via the Internet.

Before your class starts…

  • Think about the lighting in the room. Is it well-lit? Will students be able to see and interact with you?

  • Make sure you have your interactive class planned. Do you have questions prepared to ask your students? Do you have plenty of activities to engage children in? After all, you’re a real teacher with real students!

  • Familiarize yourself with Zoom and the video platform, so you don’t encounter any bumps along the way. We recommend you do a test run well in advance of your first class with colleagues, friends, or family who can give you feedback on how to improve.

  • Make sure you arrive to class early—you don’t want to keep your students waiting.

During class…

  • Take a moment to introduce yourself and ask your students (or their parents) to introduce themselves, too.

  • Encourage students to enable their video camera so it feels like they’re actually all in a class setting. But, also encourage them to put their mics on mute when they’re not talking to avoid unnecessary ruckus. (As a teacher and class host, you’ll also have the ability to mute students if necessary, and you can even make it so kids can't unmute themselves!) Only you know what works best for your class and teaching style.

  • Ask your students to leave a review after class has dismissed so you can build your reputation on KidPass!
